Song information

"Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, released on his album "Various Positions" (1984). It met little success initially, but as a result of subsequent covers gained popularity throughout the world. The song has been recorded in 300 different versions - we are giving you the chance to add some new ones. “Hallelujah” has been used in many films and television programs, which makes it to be considered as one of the greatest songs of all time. Cohen wrote the whole song while staying in the Royalton Hotel in New York City. Cohen's original contains several biblical references, to such stories as Samson and Delilah from the Book of Judges or the adulterous king David and Bathsheba: "she cut your hair" and "you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you". After the release of the album in 1984, Cohen performed the original version of the song during his world tour in 1985.
